Checking Your Balance & Transactions

Checking the remaining balance on your Octopus is easy. Every time you "dood", it appears on:

  • The Octopus reader
  • Your receipt*

*Not all service providers offer receipts.

In addition to your balance, you can also check your last 10 transactions:

  • At Octopus Enquiry Machines at MTR stations
  • At the Octopus Service Points well located at convenient and high traffic locations
  • By requesting a printout at an MTR Customer Service Centre and 7-Eleven or Circle-K outlet (a HK$3 fee will be charged by these service providers.)

The "Octopus" App is a free application applicable to NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled mobile devices and Octopus with a 9-digit Octopus number (eight digits plus one single digit inside the bracket). This platform allows users to use the following services via the Internet on their Octopus:

  • Check Octopus' remaining value, the latest transaction records and other information1;
  • Make Octopus online payment at designated online merchants2;
  • Conduct incomplete transaction refund enquiry and collection;
  • Activate AAVS2;
  • Receive Refund Notification

1 Other information includes Octopus auto-reload amount (applicable to subscribers of the Octopus Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS)), Octopus Reward$ balance (applicable to holders of Octopus Rewards Membership Octopus), enquiry date, time and last reload date either by AAVS or cash.

2 Octopus Online Payment Service and Octopus AAVS Activation are currently not applicable to the Octopus Mobile SIM installed on the same NFC Device.

Lost Octopus Reporting Service

If you lose your Personalised Octopus, our Lost Octopus Reporting Service allows you to claim a refund for the remaining value, if any, on your Octopus.
